International wood conference
and workshopWood and Wellness
June 17/18, 2004, Trient (Italy)
It
is a well established fact that far more timber presently grows in
European forests than is used.
This is particularly true for forests in the Alps, an undesirable
circumstance from an ecologic, economic or socio cultural point of view.
In the interest of sustainable development ALPENFORUM International
supports all efforts to minimize the present unbalance. To this end, it is
crucial to communicate to the public the outstanding properties of wood as
a construction- and building material, as well as an environmentally
favourable source of energy.
Within
the framework of a research program initiated by ALPENFORUM, it is
intended to present the significance of wood for the physical and psychic
well being of humans.
Knowledge
in this context is highly fragmentary and many open questions still exist.
Their answer is most desirable from a scientific point of view, yet even
more so considering the difficult situation of the timber industry itself.
The
research project is scheduled for a period of 2 years. The concept will be
presented June 18. 2004 in Trient (Italy) on the occasion of an
international workshop organised by ALPENFORUM. The project itself will be
coordinated by the sociologist Prof. Dr. Franz Kromka, university of
Hohenheim - Stuttgart.
Representatives
of natural and social sciences, wood experts, delegates from the wood
processing industry and decision makers from administration and government
will participate at the conference.
Trient has been nominated Alpine City 2004. The international conference
and workshop is a continuation of ALPENFORUM`s wood conference “
Innovative processing of wood”, which took place June 05 - 07, 2003 in
Murau (Austria).
